My Bath & Mode Work

This collaborative installation by Emma Horvát & Ellen Broadhurst explores themes of mental health, self care and  a yearning for lost comfort. The composition of on screen animation combined with soft sculpture and still images is an embodiment of the artist’s experiences of bath time and therapy. Supported by DLGSC. A bathroom doubles as a computer lab in Ellen Broadhurst’s multimedia installation My Bath. Seeking a return to utero, a person is held weightless by their bath, entertained by the security cameras recording their front yard, youtube videos, face-time and late night SBS. 4-24fps rotoscope animation recalls a childhood lounge room equipped with Sim City and Adobe Flash; short films and sculptural forms consider isolation, alienation and comfort. Mode Work is Emma Horvát’s material configuration of the psychological modes that exist within them. These ‘transitional objects’ turned transformational objects, make perceptible the transient stages of internal change, experienced in schema therapy. The tactility of fabric and its purposefully inbuilt, sensorial comfort, makes it a symbolic medium. Tactile comfort, is the combined results of the interaction between a person’s skin, the textile materials, and their environment. Tactile comfort is psychologically entwined with survival. Runs: 10 September - 3 October 2021 Admission: Free entry for all Girls School Cinema and Event ticket holders Private Island is an experimental arts project based in Girls School, Boorloo Perth, WA.  It run and curated by its artists. The exhibition is open whenever the cinema is open to all cinema and Girls School event ticket holders.
